News for 2006

January:

We held a late Christmas 2005 party on the 7th January 2006, in part due to booking availability in the New Village Hall, and combined with the availability of the day (Saturday). As usual, a great time was had by all, and the familiar games were played. Of course, the excitable and older individuals were worse in their conduct at musical chairs than the 'younger' elements!

During this month, Keith led a Christianity Explored course in the church. A small group participated in this the first running of the course.

February:

We were transported to Peru when Malcolm treated us to a wonderful presentation of photographs, video and commentary on his travels to Peru.

March:

The church community were saddened to learn of the passing away of Ted Long on the 20th March. Ted had once been pastor of the church and whenever he returned to visit us, his Christian witness was as strong and faithful as it had always been.

April:

The Children's Club finished meeting on Wednesdays during this month.

June:

A good number of us met at Eddie and Helen's garden to participate in and enjoy the now traditional summer cream tea. No walk this year, but never the less, appetites were satisfied, and the weather held fair and sunny for us.

August:

The Leadership team together with the congregation decided that as we continue to explore the development and expansion of the Christian ministry in the area, that the Leadership team would commence exploring the usage of the Church at Gotherington. The building will need some attention before it could be opened up, but it has great potential as a valuable asset to furthering God's work in the village.

September:

Church leadership elections took place this month.

October:

Result of the the elections were announced at the Church AGM (4th October), with the Leadership team consisting of: Lynne Cleaver, David Hall, Andrew Hiscock and Gareth Howell.

We celebrated harvest time with our traditional harvest service on the 1st of the month.

A group of us travelled to the Forest of Dean to have a weekend of Christian teaching, praise and rest at Lindors. A wonderful time was had by all, good fellowship, good food and excellent Christian teaching too!

December:

The Church celebrated the Christmas season with Carols by Candlelight that saw the church almost filled to capacity. We had advertised the Christmas services throughout the village, with a sizeable leaflet drop and with advertising in the Gloucestershire Echo 'Village Voice'.

On Christmas eve, we held a joint Christmas service with communion in the morning, and the now traditional young children's Nativity service took place in the early afternoon. Christmas morning saw us welcome in the Christ child.

On the 28th, Robin led a small group of us on a winter walk up Cleeve hill and beyond! On our return, we stopped off at the Hall household and were all treated to a fantastic feast of hot food and absolutely scrumptious puddings - thanks Veronica!!
